This is an attempt to compare and combine different definitions of the Western Civilization / the Occident. These definitions are based on culture, linguistics, religion, military, economy and democracy, and they are divided into 14 levels, with the 14th being a combination of the other 13.


Level 1: Narrower Traditional Definition

 
(Cold War Western Europe w/o Greece; Northern America; Australia and New Zealand)


Level 2: Traditional / Huntington Definition
 
(Western- and Central Europe w/o Greece; Northern America; Australia and New Zealand)


Level 3: Wider Traditional Definition
 
(Western- and Central Europe; Northern America; Australia and New Zealand)


Level 4: Narrower Military Definition
 
(Western- and Central Europe; Northern America; the rest of NATO and EU; Australia and New Zealand)


Level 5: Socio-Economic Definition
 
(Western- and Central Europe; Northern America; the rest of NATO and EU; Australia and New Zealand; developed countries; the rest of the nations scoring the highest in HDI and DI)


Level 6: Wider Military Definition
 
(Western- and Central Europe; Northern America; the rest of NATO and EU; Australia and New Zealand; (the rest of the nations scoring the highest in HDI and DI); Major Non-NATO Allies; other major allies)


Level 7: Western European Cultural Definition
 
(Western- and Central Europe; the America’s; (the rest of NATO and EU); Oceania; (the rest of the nations scoring the highest in HDI and DI; Major Non-NATO Allies; other major allies); several former European colonies)


Level 8: Pan-European Cultural Definition
 
(Europe; the America’s; Oceania; (the rest of the nations scoring the highest in HDI and DI; Major Non-NATO Allies; other major allies); several former European colonies; the rest of the Russian cultural area)


Level 9: Wider Pan-European Definition
 
(Europe; the America’s; Oceania; the rest of the nations scoring the highest in HDI and DI; Major Non-NATO Allies; other major allies; several former European colonies; the rest of the CIS)


Level 10: Religious Definition
 (Europe; the America’s; Oceania; (the rest of the nations scoring the highest in HDI and DI; Major Non-NATO Allies; other major allies); several former European colonies; (the rest of the CIS); the rest of the Christian-majority World)


Level 11: Wider Religious Definition
 (Europe; the America’s; Oceania; (the rest of the nations scoring the highest in HDI and DI; Major Non-NATO Allies; other major allies); several former European colonies; (the rest of the CIS); the rest of the Christian-majority World; other nations with large Christian denominations (+30%))


Level 12: Narrower Linguistic-Religious Definition
 (Europe; the America’s; Oceania; (the rest of the nations scoring the highest in HDI and DI; Major Non-NATO Allies; other major allies); several former European colonies; (the rest of the CIS); the rest of the Christian-majority World; other nations with large Christian denominations (+30%); the rest of the nations using the Latin alphabet)


Level 13: Wider Linguistic-Religious Definition

Really great map you've managed to create here! I suggest you upload it to Wikipedia (or is it Wikicommons?), they'd probably be happy to use it, especially if you can find sources to confirm these perspectives. :)

Thank you :) Well, I can easily find sources. In fact, the only countries not directly covered by a source are Saudi Arabia and Oman. I'll add the sources in the description later.

Thanks. Yes, there are no level 14's. This is because not all countries can be included in all definitions, and level 14 is just all other levels combined.
